Windows 10 will reach end of life on October 14, 2025, making the current edition its final version. So as support for Windows 10 reaches its end, we want to be sure you are well-prepared for the transition to Windows 11.
Microsoft is hailing this event as a “milestone” in their “mission to provide the most modern and secure computing experience possible.” If you are a Windows 10 user, you may not see it that way. Change is hard. Southridge is here to help.
What does this mean?
As of 10/14/25, Microsoft will no longer provide free software updates, tech support, or security fixes for Windows 10. This means that Microsoft will no longer develop or offer the most important part of the operating system: security updates. Without regular security updates to protect against modern malicious network traffic, older software becomes an easy target for hackers, viruses, and attacks.
Why is this happening?
Microsoft and other operating system companies typically choose not to continue supporting outdated software indefinitely. Windows 10 was released 9 years ago. In the world of technology, that’s a lifetime.
What will happen if I don’t upgrade to Windows 11?
We strongly recommend upgrading to Windows 11. Otherwise, please reach out to us as soon as possible for workaround solutions ahead of time, in order to minimize disruption to your ability to access your network, and mitigate potential security threats. Again, it is not our recommendation to continue to use outdated, unsupported systems. Choosing not to upgrade now is just kicking the can down the road… and, as far as roads go, this one’s a bit treacherous.
What are the benefits of upgrading to Windows 11?
According to its developers, “Windows 11 builds upon the strengths and familiarity of Windows, creating a modern, secure and highly efficient computing experience that meets the current demands for heightened security.” They have optimized for speed, efficiency, and smoother multi-tasking, and Windows 11 offers greater security and productivity… a combination we at Southridge strive to provide our clients.
In addition, Windows 11 is being hailed as the most inclusively designed and most accessible version of Windows yet offering a host of accessibility improvements designed for and with people with a range of abilities including calmer, more appealing sound schemes, beautiful new contrast themes and closed caption customizations. a more responsive experience for users working with assistive technologies. And they’ve added some energy efficiencies and carbon reductions.
