Cybersecurity Awareness Month

It’s finally October. You know what that means – Cybersecurity Awareness Month! This is the time of year to brush up on your cyber-safety skills and make sure you’re doing everything you can to stay safe online. With cyber threats becoming more sophisticated, it’s the perfect opportunity to learn how to protect your personal information and keep your digital life secure.

A great tip for avoiding common email scams is to use the SLAM method when reviewing emails. SLAM stands for Senders, Links, Attachments, and Message:

Senders – Always check the sender’s email address. If it looks fishy or unfamiliar, don’t trust it!

Links – Hover over any links to see where they actually lead. Fraudsters love to disguise malicious links.

Attachments – Be cautious with attachments, especially if you weren’t expecting the email. They could contain malware.

Message – Carefully read the body of the email. Watch for typos, weird grammar, or strange requests – those are all red flags.

By practicing SLAM, you can become your own personal cyber detective and avoid falling victim to phishing scams. Stay sharp and stay safe this October!
