Healthcare data is extremely sensitive information highlighting the need to protect it from cyber breaches. Cyber breaches have increased in frequency in recent times and the healthcare sector is no exception. As a result security measures must be organized in order to prevent such attacks from disrupting business practice.
The WEDI researched improvements needed within the healthcare sector and surmised this approach:
- “Drive a cultural change in how cybersecurity is approached in healthcare, beginning with raising awareness to educate stakeholders around the risk and cost of cyberattacks
- Build the business case for cyber security and move it into the executive suite
- Develop cyber security frameworks that provide a robust, forward‐facing road map to protect organizations in a changing environment.
- Apply lessons learned from other industries”
Companies have invested large sums of capital towards healthcare technology and infrastructure without properly protecting it. Leaving the door open to these attacks can have disastrous results for your business while also exposing client information. Within the healthcare sector businesses must shift their thinking towards implementing stronger cyber security measures.
A culture of change is needed in order to create strong networks protected by sufficient security measures. Recommendations from the WEDI also include looking towards sectors such as finance for guidance. Healthcare business must use similar measures when protecting their information in order to be fully protected from cyber breaches.
